home heating and gas services guide

Gas fireplace, gas line, HVAC, pool heater and water heater services

EmberRise Pro handles the gas appliances and heating equipment that most homes depend on every day. This guide explains what each service covers, when to book it, what a visit looks like and how to choose between a repair and a replacement, so you can make a confident decision before anyone arrives at your door.

One local team for every gas appliance in your home

Most houses run several gas appliances at once. A typical detached home in Erin Mills or Churchill Meadows might have a natural gas furnace, a gas fireplace in the family room, a tank or tankless water heater in the basement and a gas line out to the barbecue. Homes closer to the lake in Port Credit, Lorne Park and Clarkson often add a pool heater to that list. When each appliance has a different contractor, scheduling becomes a chore and nobody looks at the system as a whole.

We built EmberRise Pro around the idea that one well-organized team can look after all of it. When our technician comes to fix a gas fireplace that will not light, they can also take a quick look at the venting, the gas shut-off valve and the connector, and tell you if anything else needs attention. You get one point of contact, one written estimate and one visit wherever possible.

Our services fall into six groups: fireplace and gas fireplace service, chimney service, gas line and gas leak service, HVAC including furnaces, air conditioners and ductless systems, pool heater service, and tank or tankless water heater service. Each group has its own detailed service pages, listed in the directory above, with signs to watch for, what is included, what is excluded, the typical process and an estimated price range.

Gas fireplace repair and fireplace maintenance

Gas fireplace repair is one of our most requested services. The most common complaints we hear are a pilot light that will not stay lit, a fireplace that clicks but never ignites, a flame that is weak or yellow, soot building up on the glass, a remote or wall switch that stopped working and a blower fan that is noisy or dead. Many of these problems trace back to a dirty thermocouple or thermopile, a failing igniter, a weak battery pack in the receiver, a blocked pilot orifice or a control valve that has reached the end of its life.

Annual gas fireplace maintenance prevents a lot of those calls. A proper fireplace cleaning and inspection includes removing and cleaning the glass, checking and repositioning the logs or media, cleaning the burner and pilot assembly, testing ignition and safety controls, checking the gasket, inspecting the vent termination outside and confirming the unit is operating as intended. We recommend booking fireplace service in late summer or early fall, before the first cold snap, when appointments are easier to get.

We also service gas fireplace inserts, gas stoves, outdoor gas fireplaces and fire tables, linear and modern fireplaces, and units that have been converted from wood to gas. If your fireplace runs on propane rather than natural gas, the process is similar, though parts and settings differ.

Chimney sweep and chimney inspection services

A chimney that does not draw properly lets smoke and combustion gases linger inside the home. Our chimney sweep service removes soot and creosote from wood-burning flues, clears nests and debris, and checks the cap, crown and damper. For gas appliances that vent through an older masonry chimney, we check whether the liner is intact and suitable.

Signs that you need a chimney sweep include a smoky smell when the fireplace is not in use, smoke rolling back into the room, black flakes falling into the firebox, animals or birds heard in the flue and a damper that will not open or close. If you have bought an older home in Cooksville, Applewood or Mineola and have no record of when the chimney was last cleaned, an inspection is a sensible first step before lighting any fire.

Gas line installation, gas line repair and gas leak detection

A gas line installation lets you add a natural gas barbecue, a gas range, an outdoor fire table, a garage heater, a pool heater or a new fireplace without relying on propane tanks. Our team plans the route, sizes the pipe for the appliances it will serve, installs shut-off valves where they are needed, pressure tests the line and connects the appliance. Permits and inspections are arranged as required for the work.

We also handle gas line repair, gas line relocation during renovations, capping lines for removed appliances and replacing old flexible connectors. Gas leak detection uses proper testing equipment to find the source of a leak rather than guessing.

If you smell gas right now, do not use this website or try to find the leak. Leave the home immediately, do not touch light switches or appliances, and once you are outside call your gas utility emergency line and 911. Once the utility has made the area safe, we can help with the repair.

Furnace repair, AC repair and ductless heat pump service

Our HVAC services cover gas furnace repair and furnace maintenance, central air conditioner repair and tune-ups, heat pump service, and ductless mini split installation and repair. Furnace problems we often see homes include no heat, short cycling, a furnace that blows cold air, strange banging or squealing noises, flame sensor faults and blinking error codes on the control board.

On the cooling side, common air conditioner repair calls involve warm air from the vents, ice on the refrigerant lines, water leaking near the indoor coil, a tripped breaker or an outdoor unit that hums but does not start. A yearly tune-up in spring for the air conditioner and in fall for the furnace keeps both running efficiently and helps catch worn parts early.

Ductless systems are a popular choice for finished basements, home additions, condos and older homes without ductwork. We can help you understand whether a ductless heat pump suits your space and what an installation would involve.

Pool heater repair and pool heater installation

Gas pool heaters work hard during a short Ontario swimming season, and a heater that will not fire in June can cost you weeks of swimming. Our pool heater repair service covers ignition failures, pressure switch faults, error codes, sooting, leaking heat exchangers and heaters that cycle on and off. We service gas pool heaters as well as electric heat pump pool heaters.

Pool heater opening service in spring and winterizing in fall are both worth booking. Rodents and insects often nest inside heaters over the winter, and a quick inspection before the first start-up avoids damage. If your heater is old or undersized, we can help with pool heater replacement and new pool heater installation, including the gas line if one is needed.

Tankless water heater and hot water tank services

No hot water, lukewarm showers, rusty water, rumbling noises and leaks around the base are the classic signs of a water heater problem. We repair and maintain conventional gas hot water tanks, power-vented tanks and tankless water heaters. Tankless units in particular benefit from periodic descaling, because 's municipal water carries enough minerals to build up scale inside the heat exchanger over time.

When a tank is leaking from the body or a tankless unit has a failed heat exchanger, replacement is usually the better value. We explain the options, including tank to tankless conversions, and give you a clear range before any work starts.

Repair or replace: how we help you decide

We never push a replacement when a fair repair will do. As a general guide, a repair usually makes sense when the appliance is relatively young, the fault is a single worn part and the repair cost is a small fraction of a new unit. Replacement starts to make sense when the equipment is near the end of its expected life, repairs are becoming frequent, parts are no longer available or the cost of the repair approaches half the price of a new unit.

Safety comes first in every recommendation. If a heat exchanger is cracked, venting is compromised or a gas valve is failing, we will tell you plainly what that means and what your options are.

What happens when you book a service visit

  • Send a quote request with a short description of the problem. Photos of the appliance and its model label help us prepare.
  • We reply to confirm availability and a suitable time.
  • The technician arrives, protects the work area and diagnoses the issue.
  • You receive a clear explanation and a written price before parts or labour.
  • Once you approve, we complete the work, test the appliance and clean up.
  • We walk you through what was done and what to watch for next.

Pricing for home heating and gas services

Every service page shows an estimated price range and an average figure based on typical regional market rates. These are indicative estimates, not quotes. The final price is confirmed after assessment, because the right answer depends on the appliance, the part, access and the condition of the system. For a quick ballpark tailored to your home, try the online price estimator. It shows a range before asking for any contact details and is never binding.

Brands and equipment we work on

We service fireplaces and stoves from brands such as Napoleon, Regency, Valor, Heat & Glo, Majestic, Heatilator, Kingsman, Montigo, Town & Country, Ortal and Mendota, pool heaters from Hayward, Pentair, Raypak, Jandy and Sta-Rite, and water heaters from Rheem and Lochinvar, among others. We are an independent service company, not an authorized dealer, and we will tell you honestly if a particular repair needs a manufacturer-specific part or specialist.
